Amalie Lee (MSc, GMBPsS)
About Me
Hi, my name is Amalie! I am an experienced eating disorder recovery coach with lived experience recovering from Anorexia Nervosa, having been fully recovered for over 12 years. I have been working as a recovery coach for over 5 years. Before working with eating disorders professionally, I spent several years supporting people with eating disorder on a volunteer basis, running support groups, offering peer support and mentoring, and creating psycho-educative resources. I also have experience working in public healthcare as a former healthcare worker. I am originally from Norway, but have spent the major part of the last decade living in London, United Kingdom.
I am passionate about eating disorder awareness. Speaking appearances include the Oxford University Psychological Society and BBC Radio, and media appearances include NBC Today Show, Cosmopolitan, Fox News, Mirror, New York Times & The Daily Mail. I host the podcast 'Recovery Talk' where I discuss everything eating disorder recovery related, and regularly host other eating disorder professionals as guests. I also write on Substack.

What & Who I Work With
I work with adults with restrictive eating disorders and/or disordered eating. This includes any eating disorder where restrictive behaviours is a presenting feature. I work with people of all genders, nationalities and age groups (as long as you are 18+). I work with a variety of presentations, including but not limited to:
-
Anorexia Nervosa (both Restrictive- and Binge-Purge subtype)
-
Bulimia Nervosa & Binge Eating Disorder/Binge-Restrict Patterns
-
Atypical Anorexia & Unspecified Eating Disorders (OSFED)
-
Disordered Eating & Relative Energy Deficiency in Sports (RED-S)
-
Orthorexia Nervosa & Chronic Dieting
It’s important to me to work within my scope of competence, and to only take on clients where I believe coaching could be a safe and appropriate fit. Although ambivalence is part of the process, I can only work with clients who are willing and able to begin taking practical steps towards recovery. At this time, I do not work with ARFID as a standalone diagnosis, or certain presentations of Binge Eating Disorder where there are no past or current restrictive behaviours. I’m also unable to work with individuals who are currently significantly undernourished and/or underweight and without appropriate medical supervision.
Areas of Special Interest/Experience:
I am experienced working with a wide range of behaviours and presentations. Some areas where I hold additional training, experience or interest include:
-

-

How I Work
My coaching integrates my training background in psychology and psychotherapy. This means combining practical goal setting with exploring your deeper patterns non-judgementally. What keeps you stuck? What are your fears and wishes for recovery? Why might part of you hold on to the ED? Importantly, we work on building a recovery that lasts also after coaching, rather than you just doing better whilst we work together. Relapse prevention and knowing your own potential pitfalls is a big part of the work we're doing.
Compared to most forms of 'traditional' therapy, coaching is more directive and goal-focused. This does not mean it is just me 'telling you what to do' (although I am not afraid to call out the ED and be direct where needed!). Coaching is not something done to you, it is a collaboration, and you are expected to be an active participant. Although I bring professional knowledge and experience, I respect that you are the expert on your own lived experiences. We combine our perspectives, and build something that works for you.
Coaching is action-oriented, focusing on identifying, understanding, and challenging unhelpful eating disorder beliefs and behaviours. Together we set practical goals and challenges for you to work on between sessions. I may also share worksheets or psycho-educative video content. I don't prescribe a 'one size fits all' approach to recovery, nor do I rigidly follow one specific method. Instead, I tailor my coaching to your needs, wants and circumstances, and focus on progress, not perfection. I always say that the best recovery method is the one you can actually stick to!
My approach is warm, directive, non-judgemental and collaborative. I aim to create a safe, supportive space where you can be your honest, human self. I place a lot of value on our relationship, and I want you to feel comfortable, heard, and respected. You are encouraged to be open about what works for you and what doesn’t - that is what makes coaching work the best!
Our Sessions
I offer both virtual and in-person sessions. Virtual sessions take place via video call, or by voice call if you prefer. In-person sessions are held in a private, comfortable therapy room in Kingston-upon-Thames, South-West London, easily accessible from London and Surrey. The closest stations are Hampton Wick (5-minute walk) and Kingston (10-minute walk). Waiting area and restrooms available, and metered parking is available nearby.
Each session lasts 50 minutes. For new clients, we usually start with weekly sessions at a set time, unless we agree on a different schedule. As coaching progresses, some clients choose to move to bi-weekly sessions. Nevertheless, if you are already relatively stable/supported, and prefer bi-weekly coaching from the beginning, that is also an option. It depends on your schedule, budget, and goals.
Fees
Weekly coaching is £440 per month (£110 per session). Bi-weekly coaching is charged at half this rate (£220 per month). This includes any support between sessions, as well as communications or meetings with your treatment team. In-person sessions carry an additional £15 charge to cover room costs. To ensure fairness for all clients, I do not offer concessions or discounts for 1-1 coaching. I operate a 24 hour cancellation policy for virtual sessions, 48 hours for in-person sessions.
